7:25 pm - The Miley Cyrus “Scandal”

Originally published at Curious's Journal. You can comment here or there.

So, Miley and her dad go and get thier pictures taken by Annie Leibovitz. In one of the shots her back is exposed and you can tell she is probably nude under a sheet. Because of this, people are in an uproar…
Whatever, people are going to object to whatever they feel like objecting to no matter what… the uproar is not the reason I’m writing about it… it is because she apologized and says she is embarassed… If I was Annie, I would smack her across the face… how rude can you be? Annie is not some random amateur photographer… her work has the unique ability to connect with the viewer in a unique way and provoke a reaction. How do you agree to get your photo taken by her and not know the history of her work? At a bare minimum her picture of Lennon and Yoko on the cover of Rolling stone or more recently of Demi Moore naked and pregnant on Vanity Fair?

See more of her works here:

4:42 pm - Cisco / Juniper emulation and the like

Originally published at Curious's Journal. You can comment here or there.

If you are Studying for your CCIE/CCNA/JNCIA or just want to play with / test out routers (and in Cisco’s case, firewalls too).. here are some useful links:

Cisco Router emulation, Dynamips, found here: www.ipflow.utc.fr/index.php/Cisco_7200_Simulator
Cisco PIX emulation, Pemu, found here: www.blindhog.net/category/pemu/
Cisco ASA emulation: howto stuff can be found here: 7200emu.hacki.at/viewforum.php?f=17

If you thought the ability to emulate Cisco hardware was awsome… check out GNS3!
www.gns3.net/

GNS3 is a Grapical Network Simulator that alows you to quickly design/setup/run networks using dynamips and pemu… it rocks!

As for Juniper, there is “Non-existent” Olive, I have not tested this out yet btw:
juniper.cluepon.net/index.php/Olive
UPDATE: detailed step-by-step instructions for QEMU/JEMU solution on XP: brokenpipes.blogspot.com/2008/01/olive-is-alive.html

For those that want to play with with network topologies/protocols/technologies without needing to get proprietary software, check out Netkit:

12:30 pm - LiveLeak takes down video due to death threats!

Originally published at Curious's Journal. You can comment here or there.

So, the video site that shows videos that almost no one else is willing to show has taken down a video due to death threats… The video is a series of clips relating to violence done “in the name of Allah” interspersed with quotes for the Koran. Wired did a news story on it if your interested in the details. Google still has the video on google video. Are the quotes from the Koran taken out of context or poorly translated?

12:53 am - Moving my photos to flickr

Originally published at Curious's Journal. You can comment here or there.

Nixel’s gallery will continue to reside on curious.org for as long as she wants.

Why I’m moving my pictures to flickr:

  • Social nature of flickr
  • People looking for pictures I have  will be able to find them easily
  • Flickr Pro has very nice stats on photos including referer info
  • Website is much easier to use then Gallery2

11:13 pm - Network Solution Censorship

Originally published at Curious's Journal. You can comment here or there.

So according to an article on  Arstechnica, Network Solutions has decided to censor a website that had the following content:

-The word “Fitna” which apparently means “test of faith”
-A picture of the Qur’an
-The words “Coming Soon”

Uhhh… no boobs, no words of hate, no threats of violence, no spam, no copyright violations… just your basic “under construction” site…

Network Solutions must have a HORRIBLE AUP!

Originally published at Curious's Journal. You can comment here or there.

So, one of my coworkers told me he thought it was spooky that scientology was video taping the protest from their deck…like in the picture below… however below this picture is a video of one of the Scientology PIs that was going around capturing pictures of all the protesters and following them around after they left so they could get pictures of them taking off their masks

8:09 pm - scientology blogs

Originally published at Curious's Journal. You can comment here or there.

The web is full of anti-scientology blogs, websites, and stuff, so it can be difficult read anything about scientology besides the happy, happy, joy, joy official websites of scientology or the sites of its critics…. so here are some I have found (though some of the blogs appear to be quite “corporate” in their writing style…

10:02 pm - Scientology is back in the news…

Originally published at Curious's Journal. You can comment here or there.

So with the release/take down notice of the Tom Cruise Scientology video… A group calling themselves anonymous is attempting to dismantle the church.
They have done DoS attacks against their webservers, they have done mass protests at scientology missions and orgs (there will be another one March 15th if you want to see a bunch of people in Guy Fawkes and anti-scientology posters… stop by your local Scientology mission or org on that day.)

ANYWAYS, I wanted to voice some of my about the church…

-My biggest concern is their disconnection policy … seriously,  this type of activity should have gone away when the  cults of the 60s died out
-Next, the church’s “tech” is based around the wittings of one man, and I have not been able to find one peer reviewed test of the technology… not only that, some of the claims, if proven true , could win someone (or the church) one million dollars as part of the James Randi Million Dollar challenge .
-Lots of people point to the Lisa McPherson as a sign of how evil org was, but we still don’t know what lies Minton told court….
-In fact lots of the stories that people bring up to show scientology as an evil organization are old… perhaps the church has changed since then? The most famous actions: Operation Snow White and Operation Freak Out happened in the 70s… Yea, Three decades ago

If you really want to try out the tech, consider working with a local free zone.

3:28 am - Just how many delegates does Ron Paul have from Iowa?

Originally published at Curious's Journal. You can comment here or there.

Apparently the answer is not know, and probably won’t be known for some time… so I found estimates:

ABCNews says 0

CNN says 2

GreenPapers says 4

The bit that makes this even more confusing is the CNN site already lists some unpledged delgates in states that have not had primaries / caucuses…. (the finnall number won’t be determined till the state convention 14 June)

9:12 am - Current election predictions

Originally published at Curious's Journal. You can comment here or there.

1. Ron Paul will beat Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani, and the lesser candidates in IA
2. He will be close to and may beat McCain and will  in second round voting IA (this would put him in third place… not sure how many delegates)
3. If Ron Paul ends up getting third place in IA, he has a good chance of getting 3rd place in NH either way I predict he will get at least 4th in both states.
4. As for the Democrats, I think Obama is going to take IA and Edwards is going to have a strong showing. Not sure if Edwards will beat Clinton.

In the end, it is all a matter of who gets out the vote… I’m probably very wrong on all counts… Though, I’m pretty sure there will be some surprises.

4:17 pm - End of year donations…

Originally published at Curious's Journal. You can comment here or there.

So, the end of the year donations have been completed (unless I come up with something more before the night is over). Originally it was just going to be the EFF, but I got news recently that someone I know was affected in a bad way… in fact it was something that seemed to stop happening to people I knew or they didn’t tell me it happened to them or whatever… In the early 90s I found out several people I knew were affected the same way… in fact two people I knew were affected by the same person… So, I decided to donate to an organization that helps children hurt this way… However, it was very difficult to decide which organization to donate… You see,  the organization I supported back then turned out to be a front to badness, which is a fact that burns me to this day. What little bit I thought I was doing to help, made the situation worse for some… Anyways, to make a long story short, I decided to go with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children they help find kids,  provide legal assistance, help educate parents/kids/law enforcement, and run the cyber tipline http://www.missingkids.com/cybertip/

BTW if you do find yourself in situation where someone is affecting you in a bad way, talk to someone about it… if your afraid/embarassed/etc to talk to your family/friends about it… talk to someone anonymously about it then.. the Nine line is operated 24/7… break the silence
